New Gems

Gem of the Incomplete Master

Gem of the Incomplete Master

Whether the style store will open for you at the end of a combat round depends largely on how well you do in combat. If you manage to take no damage whatsoever your chance to visit the store is 100%. But if you do take damage your chances will drop rather sharply. The style store may still open, but the worse you do, the more luck you will need. If all of this feels a little excessive to you and/or you want to learn a new style in a boss fight, then you should equip this gem. It increases the margin of error. Your chances will still drop, if you take damage, but a lot less sharply and you should be able to take quite a few hits more before they drop to 0%.

Gem of the Incomplete Master

Increases the amount of damage you may take, before losing your chance to learn a new style in combat. The Incomplete Master is not content to know just enough, when combat is upon him. "Just enough" may be enough to survive, but it is not, however, truly enough. What good is a victory, if one does not evolve? Studying one's opponent is at least as important, as winning the fight. But the Incomplete Master knows, that learning and fighting simultaneously is a double challenge. And so Ji Tei - a famous Incomplete Master of yore - created this jewel, that will allow its wearer to take a certain amount of damage without voiding his chance to learn a new style.

This gem is available from Hui's store in Tien's Landing

Gem of the True Initiate

Gem of the True Initiate

Equipping this gem will turn you into a specialist.

Note the first four lines of the in-game description! They will change to reflect your specialization.

Gem of the True Initiate

Specialization: None +/-0% Martial Damage +/-0% Weapon Damage +/-0% Magic Damage +/-0% Support Duration this gem allows you to specialize. Specializing on Health will turn You into a Martial Artist; specializing on focus will make you a Weapon Master; and you become a Magician, if you specialize on Chi. Specializing makes the styles associated with your chosen discipline more powerful. The bigger the difference between your special stat and the other two, the bigger the bonus. The neglected disciplines, however, will suffer a malus.

Open Palm characters will receive this gem as a gift from the Fox Demon Queen upon agreeing to kill the Mother. Closed Fist characters will have to kill the Fox Demon Queen to get it.

Resonating Crystal

Resonating Crystal

The description of this gem armor will sound a bit complicated, I suppose. The underlying code certainly is a bit complicated. But what the Resonating Crystal allows you to do, can be summarized quite simply: Jump into a group of enemies, take them on all at once and make a glorious mess of things. Don't take my word for it, watch the video below!

This gem armor has the power to crystallize opponents who do damage to you. There's no guarantee your opponents will be crystallized, mind you, so don't go walking into a battle with your hands behind your back! You will need a bit of luck for a crystallization to happen. But if it does, the bad luck of being hit, will be offset by the opportunity to turn the battle around. Crystallized enemies can be shattered. That not only kills them instantaneously, but it also produces a power-up that advances this gem armor to its second, the active state: The Full Resonance. While the crystal is in Full Resonance you will do large amounts of bonus damage with any style you choose. The Full Resonance lasts a bit less than a minute.

Unlike regular Harmonic Combos you don't have to use a martial style to shatter crystallized opponents. Any style will do. You have to be quick about it, though. The crystallization only lasts for a few seconds.

But beware: Only living opponents can be shattered and it doesn't work on boss characters either.

Resonating Crystal

Chance that enemies who strike at you, crystallize for a moment. Some enemies may be shattered while crystallized. This will produce a power-up that increases your damage for a few moments. This beautiful crystal has been in possession of the imperial family for centuries. It is warm to the touch and seems to vibrate. According to ancient legend it will attune itself to the greatest of warriors and once in tune with its bearer, it can transfer its vibrations to his enemies - with devastating effect. In the past this trinket was used to test a warrior's worth, but since no prospect ever seemed to resonate with it and simply died, when being hit by a sword, the crystal was eventually seen as a mere curiosity with a pretty story, but little practical or monetary value. Now, why would Princess Lian give you this bauble?

The Resonance Armor in Action

This gem is given to you as a gift by Princess Lian when you arrive in the Imperial City

The Heart of Darkness

The Heart of Darkness

This gem armor can only be acquired and equipped by Closed Fist players. Its effects are tied to your alignment. The closer your path lies to the path of the Closed Fist, the bigger this gems's effect will become.

The gem has two kinds of effects. The first is a damage armor. It drains a small amount of Chi and Focus from any opponent who successfully strikes at you and transfers it to you. But the gem's primary effect is an enhancement of Spirit Thief and Storm Dragon. It increases the transfer rates of both styles.

The Heart of Darkness

Damage Armor increases the Chi-Transfer of Spirit Thief. increases the Focus-Transfer of Storm Dragon. The more you dedicate yourself to the Path of the Closed Fist, the more extreme the effects of this jewel shall become. If you close yourself off to empathy for others, you nourish the dark Void within you. Once the presence of the Void is felt, it cannot be contained anymore. The Void grows. It hungers. This gem will allow you to channel that hunger and extract Chi and Focus from your opponents.

This gem is the Closed Fist counterpart to the Inner Glow.

This is a reward for the "Bladed Thesis" quest in Tien's Landing. Answer all of Bladed Thesis' questions to his satisfaction, then give Scholar Six Heavens the Zither Bridge and allow Bladed Thesis to siphon his soul.

The Cloudstone

Cloudstone

This gem armor protects its wearer from debilitating effects such as confusion, paralyzation, petrification and the like. Should you become the victim of one of these effects, the gem will auto-activate and liberate you.

The Cloudstone

Cloud Armor, protects from immobilization This gem - if it is indeed a gem - is one of the oddest objects, you have ever seen. If it is indeed an object. It has the appearance of a cloud, yet it is lying on the table in front of you. When it fell onto the table, it made a sound - you're quite sure of it. You try to pick it up, but your hand grabs right through vapor. Yet the vapour does not disperse. You concentrate, you focus, you direct every bit of conciousness towards this... thing... and try again to grab it. This time your fingers meet resistance. You pick the... cloud... up. It is surprising solid - hard even - very much like stone. You look at it closer and you see the cloud - that your holding in your hand - being moved by the draft from the door. Yes, it most definitely is a cloud. You look out of the window at the... real.. clouds and become distracted for a moment. The object suddenly loses its rigidity and falls right through your hand. It lands on the table with a distinct clank. Odd.

This is a reward for surviving the last of Kang's flyer missions

Storm Armors

These three gems are Damage Armors. Whoever touches you takes a small amount of damage from Storm Magic. That even works on opponents who are otherwise immune to magic.

Unlike the Flame Armors and the Stone Armors these already existed in vanilla Jade Empire. I only changed their icons and slightly modified their stats and visual effects.

Cyclone Gem

Cyclone Gem

Damage Armor Body +4 Spirit +4 Mind +4 Increases Damage of Tempest. Among the first monks who developed the Tempest style, there was one who began to question the Closed Fist tenets of his order. Ostracized from his ruthless order, the monk sought new ways to harness the wind without relying upon Closed-Fist chaos. By focusing his hatred for his old order into a handful of small stones, he managed to replicate the power of Tempest in those stones. A stone of this type surrounds the wearer in swirling winds that whip and tear at any who harm the stone's wielder.

This gem can be created at Lord Lao's furnace by using the "Configuration of the Goat" or bought from Zin Bu in chapter 5 or later. It is also available from Abbot Song in chapter 5.

To create the Flame Armors I used gems that already existed in the game and changed their icons and added the armor effects.

Burning Essence

Burning Essence

Damage Armor Body +4 Mind +4 Spirit +4 Increases Damage of Dire Flame. Burning Essence channels elemental flame to sharpen the mind of its wearer and to strengthen the ability to channel chi. Unlike similar gems that channel elemental fire, this essence gem burns with all aspects of the flame, both creative and destructive. It may thus be used regardless of the wearer's philosophy.

Stone Armors

These two gems are Damage Armors. They surround you with a layer of living stone, that damages anyone who makes contact with it. That even works on opponents who are otherwise immune to magic.

These gems did not exist in the game. The descriptions and names are taken from unused gems, but the damage effect, the visual effects, the stats and the icons are self-made.

Guarding Gem of Stone

Guarding Gem of Stone

Gem of Earth Power

Gem of Earth Power

Damage Armor Increases Damage of Stone Immortal. Only followers of the Way of the Closed Fist may use this gem. Tearing winds and the coursing waters test their strength, but the mountains endure. Wearers of this gem gain some of this strength, their bodies hardened by its magic.

Given to you as a reward for defeating Jia. This gem can also be bought from Abbot Song in chapter 5.

Lucky Hand

Lucky Hand Gem

This gem isn't exactly new, but its effects have been increased so dramatically, that it warrants mention here. In vanilla Jade Empire this gem increased the amount of Silver you get for defeating Human enemies. In my mod this gem applies to all enemies - human or not - alive or not. Additionally the amount of Silver you can gain has been increased substantially.

Lucky Hand

More Silver From Fallen Enemies When properly prepared, this gem plucks the silken strands of fate, gently placing small amounts of local currency in the pockets of the people within a certain distance of the wielder. Used in more innocent times to subtly bolster the wealth of the poor, these gems have fallen into misuse, and pickpockets now use it to pad the pouches of those from whom they steal.

As in vanilla Jade Empire you can purchase this gem from either Songtao or Chandler Ling - depending on which of the two you have aided.
